IPC JPC XV1 Summer Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 – 07th Day

ATHLETICS : Javelin Throw : F 46

Sergeant Dinesh Priyantha Herath ( Sri Lanka Army ) became the toast of all Sri Lankans with a sterling & courageous performance on the 06th day of competitions at the Paralympic Games in Japan. The Flag Bearer & Captain of Team Sri Lanka, who had won a Bronze Medal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 05 years ago – lived upto his reputation as a strong medal prospect. With his 03rd attempt , he cleared a distance of 67.79 M – a performance that guaranteed the Gold Medal. He passed the 06th & last attempt after the 05th attempt was disallowed. All 05 of his attempts produced better performances than his Personal Best going into
this Paralympic Games.

The sweet revenge was that he was in front of the minor medal winners, both of whom were from India. The Silver Medalist was the World Record Holder going into the contest. The undisputed Sri Lankan Para Champion in the Javelin Throw – became the first ever World Record Holder from this tiny island in any sport. The Paralympic Gold Medal is also the historic first ever by a Sri Lankan. Nothing is Impossible – the slogan / motto of the Sri Lanka Army has now been given a new meaning, glittering – for ever.

ATHLETICS : Javelin Throw : F 64

Corporal Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku won the Bronze Medal – the 04th Paralympic Medal by a Sri Lankan Track & Field athlete. He improved his Personal Best performance for F 44 category before the event commenced in all 06 attempts. The best was 65.61 M in his 04th attempt. The Australian established a World Record for F 44 category in his 06th & last attempt with a throw of 66.29 M to win the Silver Medal.

Sergeant Chaminda Sampath Hettiaarachchiwas placed 09th out of 10 competitors in the event. He recorded 49.94 M in his 01st attempt which was his best out of 03.
