Netball After Covid 19 Break
The inaugural Mayor’s Challenge Trophy Mixed Netball Championship 2022 will be held on 24th & 25th March at Havelock Park ( BRC Ground ). The media conference for the event was held at the BRC Pavilion with all stake holders participating.
JAT Holdings are the Main Sponsor. Singer Sri Lanka, Cool Planet, Rowell ( Pvt ) Ltd, The Chance Sports & Fashion Bug are Co – Sponsors.
Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police, Ratnapura District, Kegalle District, Anuradhapura District, Western Province United & Colombo Municipal Council are the teams participating. It was also revealed that Hatton National Bank & Seylan Bank declined the invitation to participate citing health concerns for their staff. It was also mentioned that the teams were selected considering their performances at National Level competitions. A combined schools team was not possible as boys were a problem for this mixed team tournament, as cited by the organisers – the Department of Sports & Recreation – Colombo Municipal Council.
The draw was held earlier & the Groups are as follows :
Group A – Sri Lanka Army, Kegalle District, Colombo Municipal Council & Western United
Group B – Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police, Anuradhapura District & Ratnapura District
The 08 teams are scheduled to complete 10 matches. The public will be permitted to witness the matches as the due health sector permission has been received in this respect. Many top level players are expected to represent the teams but many National Level players are not expected to play as the due permission for them to do so, has not been granted by the due authorities.
