The Local Media Will Be Sponsored By National Olympic Committee
A zoom meeting was held in the morning today to educate the selected media personnel accredited to cover the XXX11 Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The Games were postponed for an year due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Even now, there is a lot of opposition & concern regarding the hosting of the prestigious sports extravaganza, due to the health risks for the Japanese citizens. Stringent protocols for all stake holders will be in effect & the games will be a novel experience for all participants with the “new normal” guidelines followed to the letter, hampering the festivities.
The entire contingent to the Games will be fully vaccinated. Gen. Shavendra Silva – Chief of Defence Staff, Commander – Sri Lanka Army & Head of the Presidential Task Force for the Prevention of COVID 19 together with Dr. Himan De Silva – COVID Liason Officer, Tokyo 2020 were specially mentioned for their invaluable contributions to facilitate the vaccination process under very difficult circumstances. This aspect is a stringent absolute health requirement maintained by the International Olympic Committee & the Japanese Olympic Committee.

The Air Fare, Lodging & Per Diem Allowance was promised by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka officials who attended the zoom meeting. It was also mentioned that the usual practice of the Ministry of Sports sponsoring at least some of the media personnel will not be possible in this instance. Hence, the cost will be entirely provided by funds available for development of sports. In revealing this aspect, it was specifically requested from the media to encourage the Athletes to perform at their best during competition.
