Sri Lanka At Postponed 19th Summer Asian Games 2022

The 19th Summer Asian Games 2022 will be held in Hangzhou, China from the 23rd September to 08th October. All 45 member Nations affiliated to the Olympic Council of Asia are participating in 481 events in 40 sports (61 disciplines).

Sri Lanka will participate in 20 sports with 96 athletes & 43 officials making the trip to the Games on this occassion. The entire contingent accredited to participate also include 08 from the management team of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, 06 member medical team & 08 media representatives. Nishantha Piyasena is Chef de Mission of Team Sri Lanka. Reshika Udugampola is the Deputy Chef de Mission / Lady Chaperone. Dr. Chathuranga Ranasinghe is the Chief Medical Official. Golfer, Anura Rohana ( Men ) & Track Athlete, Gayanthika Thushari ( Women ) have been honoured / selected as the Sri Lanka Flag Bearers for the Opening Ceremony.

The largest delegation at the Games is from Hosts, China at 887. South Korea 867, Japan 773, Hong Kong 688 & India 655 are also leading participants. The smallest delegation is from Brunei 11 while Yemen 20, Bhutan 27 & East Timor 27 are the other nations sending small delegations to Hangzhou, this instance.

The biggest setback is Yupun Abeykoon not participating due to an injury. But medals are expected from track & field, cricket & rugby. Personal best performances are anticipated from Wrestling, Taekwondo & E Sports.

Some preliminary events in a few selected sports disciplines have already commenced. A few Sri Lankan sports teams have also commenced competing at the games.

DSI AVI has partnered the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka for the first time as the Team Sponsor. As on many previous occasions, LOVI CEYLON is on board providing ceremonial attire for Team Sri Lanka.
