Press Release by Secretary General of NOC Sri Lanka

Right of reply

Editor “The Daily Mirror”

Refer the article under the heading “IOC Ethics Committee probing top Sri Lanka NOC official over role in OCA Elections. Secretary General Maxwell de Silva captured on CCTV meeting banned Asian official in Bangkok” was carried on 2nd August 2023.

As a responsible sport administrator of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) I strongly contradict and reject the contents of the above article dated 2 August 2023 written by your journalist Susil Premalal. The story is totally false.

I am on official overseas assignment as such I am unable to issue a detailed statement.

I totally deny meeting personally and or with Mr. Haider Farman of OCA in Bangkok with Sheikh Ahmad of Kuwait Deputy PM in secretly and the news item is false and misleading. These allegations are baseless and NOCSL has not informed any such by IOC.

I have attended this OCA general assembly along with Mr. Shirantha Peris, Assistant Treasurer NOCSL and Mr. Surendran Subramaniam, the President NOCSL who is the voting member for Sri Lanka.

I believe it was done with malice to tarnish my image as well as the good image of NOC Sri Lanka.

A detailed statement will be issued once I am back to Sri Lanka.

I hope you publish my right of reply on an urgent basis as the good name of our organisation and self is at stake.

Maxwell de Silva

Secretary General
