The Sri Lanka Tennis Association together with the Sri Lanka Army introduced WheelChair Tennis as a means to rehabilitate the injured soldiers due to the ethnic conflict at the time. Consultant Coach – Guyanga Weerasekera, European Trainer / Coach – Aad Zawan, Team Sponsor – Colombo International Container Terminal, Vice President, WheelChair Tennis Sri Lanka – Major General Shiran Abeysekera, President – Iqbal bin Issack & General Secretary – Pradeep Goonasekera (both of Sri Lanka Tennis Association) were among a dedicated group of individuals & organisations behind the success of the team.
