The President of the International Olympic Committee – Thomas Bach held a media briefing at the Main Press Centre. He said that the Paris 2024 theme – The Games Wide Open is most appropriate, 03 days remaining of the anticipated – most followed games in Olympic history. He reiterated that the unprecedented quality of competition has made the Games more appealing & more exciting. The IOC Solidarity Programme relating to the Road to Paris initiative, where over 1500 athletes representing 195 NOCs involved in 29 Sports benefitted. It was also revealed that altogether 22 Gold, 09 Silver & 22 Bronze medals have been won by those who were able to compete, upto the time of the briefing. The total cost was estimated to be US $ 3.6 million. The culture of peace experienced by the athletes at the Paris 2024 village was a testament to the peaceful coexistence of many athletes from countries involved in various conflicts, Thomas Bach emphasised. In answer to questions from the media, he maintained that a decision regarding Boxing at the Los Angeles 2028 Games will be taken by the end of next year, the latest – that future Olympic Hosts will not be decided entirely on financial feasibility – that the first medal won by a refugee athlete 08 years after that category was included are all important aspects. The IOC President made special mention of the fact that the Olympic Games Organising Committee, Paris 2024 Chairman – Tony Estanguet, a 03 time Olympic Champion in Slalom Canoeing – had done an exemplary job with his 46 strong team with minimum fuss to deliver the games to the highest level of expectation according to the Olympic Charter.
