Hosted by Catherine Inkster of the International Olympic Committee, it was attended by the very dedicated Her Worship Lord Mayoress of Paris, Madame Ana Maria Hidalgo Aleu – in her second term of office since assuming office in 2014. Joining her was Tony Estanguet, President of the ambitious Paris Organising Committee of the Olympic & Paralympic Games 2024. A much respected, very successful & immensely popular figure in his country, Tony Estanguet had been a Slalom Canoeist in the C1 Class. He had won 03 Olympic Gold Medals from 2000 to 2012 & a multiple Team & Individual world champion for his country. A graduate from the French niche French Business School ESSEC, specialising in Sports Marketing, the 43 year old was selected to be in charge from 2018.
They assured that the people’s participation during the handing over of the next host city segment at the Closing Ceremony would be signified by a gathering outside the Main Stadium in Paris. A new model to open the next Games to more people & connecting with new people is possible by way of introducing new sports by the host country. The representatives of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games also indicated that it will be Thinking Big to be More Inventive and Highlight Traditions.
During the Modern Olympic era, Paris has hosted the Games before in 1900 & 1924. So the third time to do so after a century is significant. Only London has that recognition upto now.
Sujeewa Wijenayake is the Technical Operations Manager of Baseball & Softball at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
