Awareness Programme & Team Attire Unveiling of the 19th Summer Asian Games, Hangzhou 2022 China – Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium, Olympic House, Colombo
The above event was held with the participation of a few Athletes & Officials after the Official Photograph was taken with a few Athletes & Officials at the iconic location of the Independence Square, Colombo.
The Welcome Address was made by Suresh Subramaniam – President, NOCSL. Thereafter, K Mahesan – Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports addressed the Gathering. Next, Dr. Shemal Fernando – Director General, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports traced the history of Sri Lankan Gold Medalists at Asian Games. The Team introduction was tasked with Maxwell De Silva – Secretary General, NOCSL. Finally, the general awareness as well as the do & don’ts during the Games was spelt out by Nishantha Piyasena – Chef de Mission, 19th Summer Asian Games, Hangzhou 2022 China which will be his 04th such occassion he would be performing the duties in that capacity.
The special segment of Safe Sport was also included in the programme. The subject of Prevention of Sexual Harassment & Abuse was discussed by Reshika Udugampola – Olympian / Swimmer & Secretary, Athletes Commission of Sri Lanka as well as the Deputy Chef de Mission to the Games, this instance. The topic of Prevention of Manipulation of Competition was explained by Gobinath Sivarajah – Single Point of Contact ( PMC ) for the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka & also their Manager, Marketing & Media.
Some Team Athletes were chosen to model the attire for the Opening Ceremony. The attire showcased some major iconic locations popular destinations. Another batch of Team Athletes showcased the Team Sri Lanka Attire. This was after a Team Attire Design Competition open to the local fashion industry / designer community for the purpose. The Judges in this respect were qualified & experienced in the field of Textile & Apparel Engineering from the University of Moratuwa. The elite panel of experienced & knowledgeable judges, who were also recognised, comprised Dr. Sumith Gopura, Dr. Mrs. Ayesha Wickramasinghe, Mrs. Prathibani Manthrirathne & Dr. Prabod Munasinghe.
02nd Runner Up – Minthaki De Silva, Runner Up – Jinendra Lakmini Hewagama, Winners – Pablo Innovation Team were also felicitated.
The Attire for the Opening Ceremony was handed over by Asanka De Mel – Chief Executive Officer of Lovi Ceylon, on behalf of his team. The Team Attire for the Games was handed over by Thusitha Rajapaksa – Managing Director, D Samson & Sons Pvt Ltd. together with Kumerini Candappa – Head of Marketing of the No 01 Footwear Company in Sri Lanka.
The Vote of Thanks / Closing Remarks was proposed by Air Commodore Erandika Gunawardene – Head Quarters Official, National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka at the 19th Summer Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 China.
