Danidu Sellapperuma Into Record Books

The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association conducted Under 15 – Division 3 – Tier A match between Lyceum International College, Anuradhapura & St. Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura was played at the Public Ground ( Salgado Stadium ), Anuradhapura. It was in this game that the new Sri Lanka Schools Cricket record was established.

Danidu Sellapperuma of St. Joseph’s, Anuradhapura opened batting & scored 553 no ( 31×6, 64×4, 204 balls ) in the team total of 722 / 1 dec – ( 50 Overs ). Opponents Lyceum, Anuradhapura were 105 / 10 – ( 29.5 Overs ). The match was played on matting & was suspended by tea. This is the highest individual score by a batter in Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association conducted tournament matches, under any of the 04 age groups ( U13, U15, U17, U19 ). It is the 04th highest individual score by a batter in a school match, anywhere in the world.

St. Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura was commissioned in 1898 & will celebrate their 125th anniversary next year. It is the only Boys School in the whole of the North Central Province. Over 3100 students & a 160 strong tutorial staff are inclusive in this educational institution which is classified as a National School. St. Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura has teams playing in U13, U15, U17 & U19 tournaments conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association. The Cricket Coach is Athula Rohana, a past pupil who has played for the Under 19 team. A former cricketer & former Sri Lanka Cricket appointed District Cricket Coach of Anuradhapura – Mahesh Dharmasena is the Assistant Principal ( Extra Curricular ) of the school. The Principal is Ajith Amarajeewa.

Sri Lanka Cricket has donated cricket equipment to this school earlier. The record breaking feat resulted in Sri Lanka Cricket donating another set of valuable cricket equipment for the use of the Anuradhapura Josephian cricketers.
