Susal De Silva Wins Gold Medal Senevirathne, Gunathilake,Janushkan Secures Bronze Medals in Respective Age Groups

Susal won the Gold in Highest Division

Susal De Silva of Nalanda college won the Gold Medal of the highest age group, under 18  Open event at the above Chess Championships. He scored a total of 6 ½ points out of 9 games with wins against Mohamed rayyan(Maldives), Zhandir Bizigitov (Kazakhstan), Bin Yashid Mujahid (Maldives) and  Reja Neer Manon (Bangladesh)and drew with Mobin Faizan (Pakistan), Aziz Degenbaev (Kazakhstan), S Harshad (India), Kummoyum Begmiratov (Uzbekistan), Anjum Noshin (Bangladesh) to score 6 ½ points being unbeaten. He won the Championship on the better tie breaking points after a five way tie and hence received an International Master Norm instead of the title.

Dinuwara Seneviratne (U 16 open) of Maliyadeva college, Vinuda Shenal Gunatilake (U 14 open) Royal College, B Janukshsn (U 12 open ) Jaffna Hindu College won the Bronze Medals of the respective age groups. Dinuwara beat Jenith Weeratunge (Sri Lanka), KGSTD Kiriella(Sri Lanka),  Shaker Mohammed (Bangladesh), Kushal Belbase (Kazakhstan), Amer Ijlal (Pakistan), Wasim Ahmed Yusuf (Maldives) and drew with Alikhan Kashatuly (Kazakhstan) and lost to the strong FIDE Masters Zhakshylykov Erzhan (Kyrgyzstan) and Madaminov Mukhiddin (Uzbekistan) to reach 6 ½ points and the Bronze Medal.

Vinuda beat Akil Ihsan Mustafa (Maldives), Aathik Haleem Ahmed (Maldives), Thennakoon Disara (Sri Lankaq), Iunusov Nuriddin (Kyrgyzstan), Ridwan Syed (Bangladesh) and Ikaan Waleed (Maldive ), drew with Dumanuly Sultanbeibarys (Kazakhstan) and lost two games to Sahib Singh (India) and Md. Sajidul Haque (Bangladesh) earn 6 ½ points and the Bronze Medal.

Janukshan beat Mohamed Mahfooz Muqsith (Maldioves), Pandey Abin (Nepal), Bozorov Javokhir (Uzbekistan), Kabylbek Yedil (Kazakhstan), Nithik Reddy Bhavanam (India) and Mann Ismail Mukhthaba (Maldives) drew with  Sharshenbekov Emir and lost to Goutham Krishna H (India) and Sakline Mostafa Sajid (Bangladesh) earn 6 ½ points out of 9 Games and win the title.

The Western Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022, conducted by the Asian Chess Federation was organized by the Maldivian Chess Federation from 15th to 23rd June 2022 at the Island of Ukluhas, Maldives. A total of 9 countries, Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan. Kyrgyzstan. Maldives, Nepal. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan participated in the event.
