IOC JOC XXX11 Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – 08th Day
It was cloudy, gloomy & windy with occasional light & heavy rain causing minor inconveniences for all involved in the Games during the day. The schedules of events were not badly affected overall. The major concern for the Tokyo 2020 games organisers was the spike of Covid 19 positive cases & detections in & around competition venues as well as residences of stakeholders / service providers & local residents. The stringent health related guidelines are being observed & practiced by a large majority. Nimali Liyanaarachchi was in Lane 02 in the 04th Heat of the Women’s 800 M in the morning session of the first day of Track & Field action at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, situated 16 Kms from the Main Press Centre. Ranked 87th in the world, she was always behind the rest & finished 08th & last in her Heat, timed at 02 minutes 10.23 seconds, slow by her own standards as well. From Sooriyawewa to Tokyo, well she will cherish the journey for the rest of her life.
