The South Asian event – Asian 3.2 Zonal Chess Championship 2021 was the preliminary event for the FIDE 09th Chess World Cup Championship 2021 scheduled to be held in Sochi, Russia from 10th July to 03rd August.

39 competitors participated representing Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan & Sri Lanka. Candidate Master Buddhika Amarasinghe ( Sri Jayawardenepura Chess Club ) & Fide Master Susal De Silva ( Nalanda College ) were the others in the 03 member Sri Lanka participation who joined the action from the Headquarters of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka in Gangodawila, Nugegoda. Grand Master Alexie Barsov ( Uzbekistan ) trained the local team throughout the event.

The Championship was conducted by the Bangladesh Chess Federation from Dhaka, under the guidance of the International Chess Federation & assisted by the Asian Chess Federation on the 09 Round Swiss System via the Tornelo Platform.
