The 58th Asia – Pacific Broadcasting Union Sports Group Conference and Associated Meetings were held at the Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo. Around 60 participants representing 20 countries participated in the 03 day gathering held in Sri Lanka for the first time ever. Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation – the National Television Station of Sri Lanka in addition to being an active full member of ABU, hosted the event with Current Affairs & Sports Units jointly organising the activities & handling the logistics.
The meeting was held under the theme – New Initiative for New Times. Palitha Senerath Yapa, Head of the Sports Unit explained that there were five areas of focus for the deleberations.

2. ABU Content Sharing Platform
3.Events of Own IP
4. Broadcast Guarantee Beam
5. ABU Training Academy
The Ceremonial Opening was held with Hon.Gayantha Karunathilaka – Minister of Parliamentary Reforms & Mass Media present as the Chief Guest. Also present were Jiang Heping – Chairman, ABU Sports Group & Controller, CCTV Sports, Dr. Javed Mottaghi – Secretary General, ABU and Cai Yangjiang – Director, ABU Sports. Sanjeewa Batuwaththa of the Current Affairs Unit handled the live telecast of the hour long ceremony. The Fellowship / Felicitation Dinner was held in the company of Hon. Karunaratne Paranavithane – Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Reforms & Mass Media, Attorney at Law, Ravi Jayawardene – Chairman, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation together with other top officials of ABU Sports also present.
The Sri Lanka Navy Cultural Troupe was in attendance during both functions. ABU consists of 282 member organisations from 69 countries in the Asia & Pacific geographical regions. Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, South East Asian Games & Asian Beach Games are some of the main sports events that will be covered by ABU in the near future.Gallery with ID 240 doesn't exist.
